Ideas for differetiating instruction for gifted students in high school (from Schuylkill County educators):

ENGLISH 9 - ROMEO & JULIET - Have students explore an aspect of Shakespeare's time with choices. Choose a topic such as Queen Elizabeth or the Bubonic Plague or the theater, music and fashion. Cokmpile the research and create one of the following: Webquest, PowerPoint to share with class or traditional research paper in MLA.

MATH - Give students a "challenge" problem (real-life scenario) that requires connecting and combining concepts and ideas that students may not usually associate with one another. Kris Bet, MAHS
Geometery and algebra - Make cards with expressions, equations, etc. on one and the solution on another. Students will need to solve the problem and match the answer.
Graphs and grids - Allow students to make up a survey that measures favorite holiday activities. Have them generate a list of options and distribute to classmates. Students will then crunch the data, create a spreadsheet and graph and present findings to the class.

SAT TUTORIALS - Have gifted students do the last five problems (the most difficult add challenging). The studnets would get bored doing the rest, run out of steam and never do the most important part.

SPANISH - When doing the food unit, assign projects according to the multiple intelligences. Ex. writing and performing a skit (restaurant scene), designing a menu, etc.
