Awesome Stories' Visual Vocabulary Builder is intended to help people of all ages to more efficiently and memorably learn new words. Each profiled word is located in the relevant story. It is accompanied by a picture which highlights its meaning.

Although these visual learning aids are currently available for everyone, they will soon be available only for site members. Each Visual Vocabulary Builder contains ten new words and appears as a PDF link on the first page of the story (in addition to this list). It is the plan to develop Visual Vocabularies for every story and video clip at Awesome Stories.

Use Awesome Stories Visual Vocabulary Builders in the classroom to allow students to opportunity to explore definitions and visual representations of essential vocabulary. If the text a student is reading is not found on the Awesome Stories site, students can create Visual Vocabulary Builders using PowerPoint, Keynote, or Google Presentations.

Flashcard Stash

Flashcard Stash is a dictionary based website for helping students learn vocabulary and more.

Teachers can sign up for a free account to create and store word lists to support written text. With the click of a button, users can access definitions, example sentences from context, and images to support the word. Once created, teachers will have a set of digital flash cards to use to help students practice the words and concepts through some games and quizzes. Students can access the vocabulary activities through a link, without logging in.

The tool can also be used to help students build their own knowledge about vocabulary terms and concepts if asked to create their own word cards. This, of course, takes the learning to a whole new level. Additionally, students are able to view quotations from books and Internet articles. This not only places the term in contest, but also enables students to interact with current events.
